What is this Workshop ?

  • This is an information-packed, interactive 7-hour workshop for about 20 business people seeking to start a new business or improve an existing one.

  • This Workshop is more detailed and more interactive  than our regular monthly Business Workshops

  • Legal Structuring of the business
  • Understanding Cash Flow & Financing
  • The many dimensions of Business Planning
  • Questions are encouraged at a Round Table Discussion
  • The secrets of entrepreneurial success from Mo Siegel (Celestial Seasonings), Frank Carney (Esprit, Miami), James Lowrey and others - recorded on video especially for this program.
  • You will receive the following handouts:
        1)  "How to Really Start Your Own Business", by Inc. Magazine
        2)  "Ultimate Business Planner" CD, to help you write your Plan
        3)  "How to Start and Manage your Small Business" - an excellent book prepared by Bay Area SCORE with lots of valuable information and references.
  • Refreshments and lunch are included.
  • (NOTE: This workshop does not include the "Insurance" and "Accounting" sections found in the "Starting and Managing Your Small Business" workshop. Instead, it includes an advanced and expanded "Financial Plan" section)

The lecturers include:

  • Mike Elkin, the Assistant District Director for Entrepreneurial Development at the San Francisco U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).  He is responsible for managing counseling and training programs delivered through the Region's Small Business Development Centers, SCORE offices, and Business Information Centers.  Last year,  over 20,000 small businesses were counseled and trained. During 14 years with SBA, he has  also managed the Oakland One Stop Capital Shop and was the Regional Manager for SBA's International Trade.
  • Larry Tessler, with a BS in Banking and Finance, has 34 years in the Retail industry, with experience buying, selling and marketing management for 2 Department Store Companies and 1 Specialty Chain. He also founded and operated his own small retail business.
  • Laszlo Bonnyay, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA in Management, has 30 years of experience in Marketing, Finance, Strategic Planning and General Management. Living in America, Germany, Holland and England, he has business experience internationally. In 1996, he founded a book publishing company.
